Hockey Tournaments
U11A's equal 3rd in the Sutton Valence Hockey TournamentWe have had the best season ever, with 23 matches played in total. These resulted in 11 wins, 7 draws and only 5 defeats. On occasion, our B teams played A teams from other schools in an attempt to ensure close matches. This led to a couple of close defeats, but we felt this was worth it in order to maximise the potential for more girls to play. The U11 team achieved equal third place in the Sutton Valence tournament in October 2010, and were the only team to beat eventual winners Kent College, Canterbury! In fixtures, their best results were wins over St Michael’s and Sutton Valence, and draws against Cumnor House and Sevenoaks U12B team. The U11B team on the whole had very close matches, resulting in 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. Sutton Valence was their toughest match, where they lost 1-6, but they enjoyed wins over Cumnor House and Rose Hill. The U10A’s were unbeaten, and secured impressive results against St Michael’s, Sutton Valence and Hawthorns. The U10B team played well against Rose Hill A team, although they lost 0-2. They achieved 6-0 and 6-1 victories over St Michael’s and Hawthorns respectively, and many of these players could easily play at A team level.
At Derwent Lodge we are able to run two senior hockey teams, and occasionally a third will be selected to play. Girls play hockey at least once a week in lessons where they learn new formations and hone their skills. Many girls took up the opportunity to play in one of the senior after-school hockey clubs and all girls are usually confident players by the time they leave Derwent Lodge. Due to the nature of the game, not all girls will represent the school in matches, however 48 of the 68 senior girls enjoyed playing in at least one match. All senior girls played in the inter-house tournament; Grasmere just saw off Coniston and Windermere who were joint runners-up by a mere one point!
Beth Peachey was awarded the Randall Hockey Trophy.
