Under 11 team wins Tonbridge School Tournament
20th June 2014

The Colts A boys, lead very well by Drew Beazleigh, won the annual Tonbridge Prep schools 6-a-side competition.

The boys had to play 5 group games with each game consisting of 5 overs.

In the first game we were well beaten by Cranmore but rallied well to beat Wetherby, Wellesley, Holmewood and Dulwich to reach the Semi Finals. In this we played the form team of the day Great Walstead.  Fantastic bowling from Will Tyler, Oliver Creasey and Drew Beazleigh meant we bowled them out for just 18 and we knocked off the runs relatively easily.

In the final we met Cranmore again, the team we had lost to in our opening game. By this time in the day our boys had built a great deal of momentum and belief and were a different prospect altogether. We managed 37 runs in our five overs with Oliver Creasey and Drew Beazleigh playing sensibly to get valuable runs on the board as this was not an easy pitch on whcich to score runs. We had to bowl well and did so. The game came down to the final over and the final ball. Cranmore needed 2 to win and Adam Pinnell proved to be the perfect death bowler and produced a wonderful delivery to bowl their last man.

It was a great day of cricket and every boy played a considerable part in the team’s success. Max Bright was solid behind the stumps and took some excellent catches, you cannot underestimate the importance of a good keeper in tournaments of this nature. He was also hugely positive throughout the day no matter what the team situation. James Woodmansee bowled fast and with good accuracy and proved very hard to score off. He also took a hatrick against Wetherby. Oliver Creasey made tatters of Holmewoods talented top order and Will Tyler demonstrated his usual allround excellence.  Adam Pinnell was our most consistent performer throughout the day. He played some lusty innings and bowled very accurately. His fielding was also outstanding.

Mr Holmes was a very proud coach with considerably shredded nerves!
