Rawlinson Run Victories for Schools at Somerhill
23rd September 2014

The Rawlinson Run 2014

Friday 19th September 2014

As the youngest members of the Schools at Somerhill team, the Year Two boys and girls took part in the Rawlinson Run with great gusto.  Even though it was the first inter schools competitive event for many of them, they were ready for action and were great representatives of the Pre-Prep.  Harriet Raven gained silver and Niamh Tatty was awarded bronze and, along with Bibi Jones, Bella Richards, Martha Tarry, Iris Whitlock, Jacob Bishop, Harry Corstorphine, Tom Costello, Hamish Cowling, Fergus Gillece and Barnaby Grant the team won the Year Two trophy.

The flash, super-speedy blue running vests did the trick for the DL girls at the Rawlinson Run. The Year Three team had 4 girls in the top ten, with Lily Slack bagging a silver medal, while Bella Scott, Amber Croll, Ella Lockhart, Hannah Kruger and Eve Smith also ran superbly to help take the Year Three trophy for Somerhill.  The Year Four trophy also came home on the Somerhill bus. The DL girls all finished in the top 20 in the Year Four Girls' race. Sophie Slack took the bronze medal, closely followed by Ottilie McArdle Hodge, Cerys Cherret, Darcy Rook, Isla McCulloch and Emma Horgan.  There were some stunning performances that set a high standard and bode well for the rest of the cross-country season. Very well done, girls!

Donning our new super speedy, hi-visibility running kit, courtesy of the Slack family, the YC teams were raring to go at the Rawlinson Run.  The Year 3 boys made a fantastic start with a wonderful team effort scoring just 33 points and winning their age group in sweltering conditions. Very well done to Tom Barry, Heston Symonds, Rohan Brown, Ryan Young, Tom Hobbs and George Holder.   The Year 4 team ran the last event of the day and were understandably itching to get going. Such is their love of running it was hard work to get them to conserve energy as they waited for the start!  Once the race was finally underway, the boys did not disappoint and also won their age group scoring 28 points just one ahead of Hilden Grange!  Felix McArdle-Hodge picked up gold after a fantastic run and Angus Hall took the bronze just a few metres back.  This was another great team effort with all the boys contributing to the team's success. Well done to Albert Whitlock, Finn Gentry-Potter, Noah Flanagan and Archie Steddon.

What a great start to the season boys, you have set the bar high!

Overall, The Schools at Somerhill brought home the Year Two, Three and Four combined trophies as well as the Rawlinson Shield for strongest school. What a performance and what a great group of runners we have. There were lots of proud teachers and parents at the end of a busy afternoon.
