DL runners bring more trophies home!
10th October 2014

Stupendous results from the girls this year! The course changes this year ensured all age groups got to experience the ‘gruesome grind’ up the hill by the parkland road, but all our runners demonstrated their determination and talent and did DL proud.

The U9 girls were first out on the course, and DL powered through the large field of competitors. Sophie Slack was knocked over on the start line, but got up and carried on. She then lost a shoe, but ran on (in a holey sock) and made her way home having regained several places. The rest of the U9 girls’ team – Amber Croll, Lily Slack, Cerys Cherrett, Ottilie McArdle Hodge, Isla McCulloch, Sophie Watkins and Darcy Rook – ran extremely well and finished close together. Their combined score was only 79, which meant DL were worthy winners of the U9 shield this year!

The U11 girls’ race was even bigger. There was a number of superb young runners in this race, so the competition was tough. However, once again DL showed great strength and desire to put in a good team effort, resulting in them coming 3rd overall. The runners in this team were Lucy Hudson, Sara-Luisa Riolo, Sophie Preston, Mattie Butler, Milly Scott, Maisy Smith, Scarlett Bonner-Leney and Mimi Vorster. The girls truly did ‘run like the wind’ – as well as running into the wind, which was blowing with considerable force that afternoon. Fantastically well done; Mrs M is very proud of you again!
