Woodmansee Shield
9th March 2016

The Woodmansee Shield cross country event provided us with a well-deserved chance for lots and lots of Derwent Lodge girls to compete. In total there were 19 Junior and 15 senior girls representing Derwent Lodge. The junior girls kicked off the afternoon and we saw some fine running once again from Lily Slack, who crossed the line in 1st place, closely followed by Eva Mathew in 3rd, Amber Croll in 8th, Bella Scott in 9th, Niamh Tarry in 14th, Ella Lockhart in 15th, Hettie Hall in 17th and Martha Kinnersley in 18th. These girls were the first 8 DL girls across the line, contributing to another brilliant score for the first 6 girls of just 50 points. Following the junior boys, it was the turn of the senior girls to show what they could do on home turf. Sophie Slack was victorious, after another fantastic run, crossing the line in 1st place. The next DL girls through were Sara Riolo in 10th, Mimi Vorster in 15th,   Kitty Muysken in 17th, Ottilie McArdle Hodge in 18th,  Sophie Watkins in 22nd,  Darcy Rook in 23rd and Milly Scott in 26th. Our points total for the first 6 across the line came in at an extremely respectable 83.

Overall, after what has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks for all the girls, the junior team finished in 1st place ahead of Granville and the senior team finished in 2nd place, just behind Granville! This resulted in the overall Woodmansee Shield winners being Granville, with DL missing out by just 5 points and having to settle for 2nd on this occasion. Yet another brilliant afternoon of cross country competition.
