National Freestyle Champion!

Yardley Court and Derwent Lodge pupils competed in the IAPS Swimming finals on Saturday at the K2 leisure centre in Crawley. The qualifying rounds took place at Walthamstow Hall in January with approximately twenty other rounds taking place all over the country. The top sixteen swimmers and twelve relay teams are then selected to swim in the finals. Twelve boys from Yardley Court qualified for the regional finals, with four girls from Derwent Lodge.
A Gold medal was won by Tom C, the new U10 25m freestyle National Champion! Tom also competed in the freestyle 4x25m U10 relay with Albert, Angus and Seamus, winning Bronze. Congratulations! Albert made it through to the final eight in the U10 25m breaststroke, taking 7th position in the finals. Oshi finished 10th in the U11 50m breaststroke, with Angus 11th in the U10 25m backstroke. Max achieved 13th in the U12 50m breaststroke and alongside Fin, Oliver and Toby achieved 10th place in the U12 4x25m freestyle relay. Luke, Freddie, Ralph and Oshi were 9th in the U11 4x25m medley relay. A superb performance by all these boys.
In the afternoon Sara, Imogen, Mimi and Alice achieved 8th place in the U11 4x25m medley relay and Mimi finished 13th in the U11 25m butterfly. Well done girls!
This was our best year yet - team Somerhill thoroughly enjoyed the event!
