Fun in France
22nd June 2016

We left school under grey skies and arrived in France to heavy rain, but our Yardley Court Year 6 boys seemed oblivious to the terrible weather and enjoyed their picnic on the beach at Wimereux, making the most of puddles. In the afternoon, they got even wetter practising their kayaking and paddle boat skills on a lake. The instructors thought that they deserved a diploma in wild swimming as they spent more time in the lake than on their boats! After changing in to dry clothes, the boys enjoyed their evening at the centre, playing football and competing in a quiz under the guidance of our enthusiastic French ”animateurs” Jack and Alice.

On Tuesday morning, after a jog to the beach with Mr Holmes, Mr Mac and Ms Cashmore and a hearty French breakfast, we were ready to go and meet pen friends at Desvres. We had a warm welcome from the school who tried their hardest to entertain us in spite of terrible weather conditions. Some of our boys loved the Zumba class and others did a great presentation of Yardley Court to their penfriends in French! We said good-bye to our friends and visited Nausicaa, the sea life centre in Boulogne. We saw huge sharks and touched some rays but the highlight of the visit was the sea lion show. By the time we left Nausicaa, the sun had finally appeared and we strolled through the streets of Boulogne, making a few stops at boulangeries and cheese shop to sample the delights of the region. Back at the centre, the boys went for a swim whilst others took part in a football tournament.

On the last day, we visited the theme park, Bagatelles in the sunshine. A super trip.
