Cross Country
14th October 2017

The autumn colours creeping in to the trees gave the game away this week, with warm afternoons that could be mistaken for summer. Perfect conditions for two great afternoons of cross country running on our parkland.

On Thursday, 800 children from 29 schools ran in the Somerhill Regional Preps event. Yardley Court completed a clean sweep of U9, U11 and U13 trophies, with Derwent Lodge raising the U11s winners' trophy. Derwent Lodge U9s ran well, finishing 4th in a field of 16 teams.
Well done to DL U11 Lily and YC U13 Ollie for their Gold medals, James for his Silver medal (YC U9) and Marcus for his Bronze medal (YC U13). The YC U11s were impressive, with all 8 boys finishing between 7th and 25th. The top six were placed 6,7,8,12,13,14, meeting their target of bunching high up the field to secure a win.

One of the joys of this event is that it gives us the opportunity to welcome back our alumni, now running for their senior schools. It was lovely to see you all, with your families cheering you on across home turf!

On Friday morning, at 7.30am, 50 children in our early morning running club warmed up the course, with Mr Holmes and Mrs Taylor. Big smiles and a good dose of fresh air before their school day began.

We then welcomed 560 children on Friday afternoon from 26 local schools for the Primary Schools Cross Country event. Another super afternoon of running, with some fantastic performances and a great crowd of spectators.

Thank you to everyone for coming along to support the children, to the Sevenoaks School pupils who were our hares on Thursday, John Sanders and his Tonbridge Athletics Club team for marshalling, timekeeping and setting out an excellent course and to our Year Seven Yardley Court hares and marshalls at Friday's event. Great team work from our games staff and Somerhill groundsmen help make these events a real highlight. Thank you all!
