William Nicholson Talks to Pupils
12th June 2014

On Tuesday we had a very special guest at Somerhill!  William Nicholson is a screenwriter, author and playwright.

He has published several novels for both children and adults (including ‘The Wind on Fire’ trilogy that was on sale to the children after each event on Tuesday), but is perhaps best known for co-writing the blockbuster film ‘Gladiator’.  He has also written several other films of note, including the recent ‘Mandela’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Shadowlands’ and ‘Elizabeth – The Golden Age’.

Mr Nicholson spent time with the Year 6 girls in Derwent Lodge before taking a session with Year 5, 7 and 8 boys in Yardley Court. He was a hugely entertaining and engaging speaker, discussing his love of writing, reading and exploring stories about all that makes us what and who we are. His audiences were rapt and it was lovely to see the pupils asking such intelligent questions at the end of each session. We were very lucky indeed to have him at Somerhill and are extremely grateful.
