U11A's lost in the quarter-final of the National Knock-out Tournament

The highlight of the season was watching the U11 team develop into an awesome squad of players who played their socks off in three rounds of the National Knock-out tournament.  They easily beat Royal Russell, Windlesham House and Cumnor House, with an innings to spare in the first two matches!  The quarter-final match was hastily arranged against Holy Cross (the team who knocked us out of the netball finals), and the scene was set.  Unfortunately, our batters couldn’t find space to hit into, so we didn’t get the chance to repeat our success of 2004 when we were national runners-up.  However, the good news is that six of the current Year Fives played a part in the progress of our team this year, so next season is looking good!

The girls have all enjoyed the opportunity to play in matches, and we have won well over half of our fixtures this season.  The U10 A’s have developed into a talented team, and their most memorable moment must have been the match against Sutton Valence, which ended in an 18-all draw!  A dad who was watching rounders for the first time said that it was so exciting, it should be shown on Sky TV!  The U8’s and U9’s have made great progress with their skills, and almost half of the junior girls can throw in excess of 15m, which is great for deep fielding.  More work on catching big hits and throws into the bases will benefit these young teams, but the future looks bright in rounders.

The Senior Rounders Cup was awarded to Phoebe Mantovani, and the Junior Rounders Cup to Erin Connell.
