Virtual Visits

Somerhill Prep pupils have had the pleasure of 3 virtual author visits recently.

Years 3 and 4 were treated to a much-enjoyed historical illustration session by Gary Northfield. Gary’s Julius Zebra books are much loved in Somerhill and the children were captivated trying to draw Julius in gladiator garb. Great fun!

The Senior boys had a virtual visit from the author Alex Wheatle. He was fascinating. Born on the 3rd of January, 1963, Alex spent most of his childhood in a children’s home in South London where his only reading material was The Beano, Whizzer and Chips and Shoot! If he was very lucky, he’d pick up a discarded football annual. Now he is an acclaimed author.

Years 5 and 6 DL and YC had the pleasure of a virtual author visit from Tamsin Winter. She spoke to the children about her very popular texts, Being Miss Nobody and Jemima Small Versus the Universe. The children asked many questions about what had inspired her with her stories and the processes of publishing her work. Tamsin gave us some great tips. A fabulous morning and as several of the children quoted, “Totally inspirational!” We can’t wait for her next release in July.
