Creative Arts

Music, drama and art are widely celebrated at Yardley Court.

Art

We are proud to have many excellent young artists among our pupils – you will see lots of their work displayed around the school. All pupils have a double period of art weekly and potential senior school art scholars have extra support to develop their portfolios. Boys are taught a diverse range of techniques and skills including drawing, painting, printmaking, sewing, 3D design and pottery, graphics and animation, photography and textiles.

Music

We have a specialist music centre, with IT suites, practice rooms and concert space. Pupils have many opportunities to learn a variety of instruments and take part in concerts, soirees and productions as part of a specialist group, the school orchestra or with solo performances.

Yardley Court also has strong links with the music department at Tonbridge School, providing choristers for Tonbridge School Chapel Choir. Selected boys attend voice trials every year and successful candidates perform in the Tonbridge School Chapel.

Drama

Drama is part of the rich education offered at Somerhill. The children take part in poetry soirees, Shakespeare performances in the grounds and learn about lighting schedules for backstage operations, using industry standard software to bring to life their designs and ideas. Our Head of Drama relishes a challenge and Yardley Court boys take part in abridged Shakespeare shows, for example, the comedy and delight of ‘Twelfth Night’ and ‘A Comedy of Errors’ with the tragedy and history of ‘Julius Caesar’.
