Christmas preparations at Saplings

Last week the children used silver birch wood to create Christmas decorations using hammers and nails to practise using tools safely.

This week our Sapling children used the cut-off branches from the lime walk trees to make circular wreaths. Some children collected resources to decorate the wreaths whilst others spent time comparing the lengths of the wood or making letter shapes and magic star wands!

The children visited the big woods and hauled back a fallen tree by tying it to a rope with a timber hitch and pulling as a team together. They prepared the tree by using loppers to remove the small branches, and then the bow saw to cut small slices. The children noticed the rings in the slices of the tree and the group talked about how this can show the age of a tree.
